As part of our PeaceBuilders Kick-off Event, here is a peaceful message brought to you by YouTube Celebrity, "Kid President®"
Peacebuilding Hero and YouTube Celebrity; MattyBRaps® created a music video that talks about the struggles of his sister who has Down's Syndrome, and the similar struggles many people face when we treat them unfairly.
"Pieces of Peace" Puzzle Collage
Every student was issued a "Piece of Peace" puzzle piece to take home and write in something they had done to promote peace and kindness at home, school, or out in the community.
Students were asked to bring their puzzle pieces back to school and give them to one of the Guidance Counselors. Each piece is being added to a large puzzle collage in the hallway located right across from the Guidance Offices. The overall goal of this exercise is to promote peace across settings, and show that when individuals commit themselves to doing even small acts of kindness for others, it works to create a larger picture of peace.
4th grade had green pieces
5th grade had blue
6th grade had purple

Here's some of the great things students wrote on their puzzle pieces:
I helped others by...
...taking care of my neighbor's dog while he was on vacation.
...helping my Nana wash the dishes.
...holding the door for the next person in line.
...helping pick up a mess that I didn't do.
...cheering up someone when they didn't win a game.
...helping an opponent up in soccer.
...helping my brother do his homework because he did not get it.
...there was a screaming baby on our bus and I went up and sat next to him and he calmed down.
...when someone spilled their lunch, I helped pick it up.
...helping teach my little brother's friends how to kick a soccer ball.
...helping my dad split fire wood when he got tired.
